أَسْمَاءُ اللهِ الْحُسْنَى

To Allah belong ninety of His names, and nine that follow them (ninety-nine).

The reward of one who masters them is entering Paradise, as authentically narrated,

by Abū Hurayra, from the Chosen one — may Allah bless him through the ages.

Mastering them is by counting, then understanding, then supplication — O lover of knowledge.

He is Allah, our Lord; the Most Gracious, the Merciful; O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining.

The First, the Last, the Manifest, the Hidden, the Kind, the Acceptor of repentance, the Forgiver.

The Pardoner, the Compassionate, the Glorified, the Holy, the Peace, the Securer, the Watcher — sanctified.

The Almighty, the Compeller, the Supreme, the Creator, the Originator, the Fashioner.

You are the Sovereign, the Owner, the King; and I am poor, owning nothing.

You are the All-Powerful, the Capable, the Omnipotent; and if I am weak I cannot prevail.

You are the Most High, the Exalted, the Highest; and I am the lowly servant — [You are] the Patron.

You are the Generous, the Most Generous, the Provider, the Sustainer, the Creator, the Supreme Creator.

You are the Appreciative, the Thankful, the Oft-Forgiving; the Forgiving, the Subduer, the Ever-Dominant.

You are the Wise, the Judge, the Patron, the Protector; the One, the Unique, the Eternal Refuge, the High.

The Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining, the Truth, the Clear; the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing — O Helper.

And He is the Subtle, the All-Aware, the Praiseworthy; with the Glorious on His Throne, and the Restorer.

And He is the Near, the Responsive, the Strong; with the Almighty, Overcomer of every strong one.

And indeed He is the Opener, the All-Knowing, the Self-Sufficient, the Forbearing, and the Generous.

Then the pairing of two, O my nation — they correspond, by wisdom:

the Expediter and the Delayer; the Abaser and the Exalter; also the Withholder and the Extender.

All are established in the Sunna; and what remains of the names is singular (unpaired),

so count the number: He is the God, the Lord, the Beautiful, and the Generous-Giving,

the Bestower, the Reckoner, the Preserver, with the Judge; the Gentle, the Doer of good, the Healer, the Willer,

and indeed He is the Master, the Concealer, the Eternal Refuge, the Magnificent, the Great, the Glorious,

the Giver of life, the Pricer, the Giver; remaining: the Bestower, the Helper, the Watcher, the Vast, the One, the Pure,

with the Loving, the Trustee, the Ever-Giving — taking the means as a way to ascend [to Him].

Glory to the One who guided us and favored us with them, saying in al-Aʿrāf: 'so call upon Him by them'.

The supplication of worship and praise to Him, and of need — the supplication of asking — to Him.
